Mat Matera is constantly walking around town to find new ideas to paint. His work is a mixture of color relationships and memories of a place. Mat attended the Massachusetts College of Art where he received a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting. He continued his studies at the Art Students League of Manhattan.

"I’m most interested in representational painting and its relationship to color theory, specifically Joseph Alber’s color theory," Mat says. "Two years ago I took an opportunity to move back to Northampton. The town has been wonderfully supportive to my painting career. I’m fortunate enough to have shown my work in Thornes Marketplace last Summer as part of the Storefront Arts group. And I’ve been selling prints of my paintings at Faces on Main Street."
