Event Description

Avanti Wind Quintet plays the 1955 "Wind Quintet No. 1" by Professor Emeritus Alvin Etler (1913-1973) and Judith Gordon, piano, plays "Prelude & Caprice" from Suite for Piano by Donald Wheelock (b.1940), and "Capricious" from Nostalgic Waltzes by Ross Lee Finney (1906-1997). This is the first event of a year-long series "Marking a Century - Music at Smith 1909-2009." Concerts, lectures, and other special events will honor the many composers, theorists, scholars and performers who have taught and performed at the college, and alumnae who have gone on to distinguished careers in music.
