I just found out about this freely distributed newspaper which can also be found online. The website is a great resource, full of inspiring articles and useful information. Check it out!
Great resource! Thanks for sharing. The Journal of Aesthetics and Protest is one of my favorites. The full issue is free to download. I have issue 6 in print for lending if anyone is interested.
I am so excited to see your post- I just randomly found a paper copy of Art and Work and it's so great! I saw that you can get them for free (plus a shipping fee) and I was thinking of ordering a couple hundred and leaving them around the Valley at co-ops, bookstores, coffee shops, studio buildings, etc.
I don't have a real plan though- what were you thinking in terms of distribution?
I think that's a good start! We could ask people to chip in to split the shipping costs.
I like your plan to leave them around some art 'hot spots'. If there is enough interest we could also build a few newspaper boxes and leave them in city centers. We might have to get permission for that if we want them to stick around...
I would like to help out with this plan - it sounds good so far. We could even have a one night discussion/exhibition as suggested by Temporary Services:
"We invite you to use this newspaper as an exhibition, to host a discussion, to program an event, use it in your classroom or curricula, or just tell us what you think! We encourage you to reprint and reproduce copies of the newspaper and articles on this website as long as you credit the original source as well as Art Work."
I could distribute to Amherst. I would also be willing to contribute some cash money to the shipping fee.
This is awesome. Let's make it happen. Should we gather folks in person who would like to help out with this and figure out how we can coordinate it? We can use C3 Space if that would help.
Great idea Julia, I think we should definitely meet in person!
Also, I just emailed the print distributors to ask how much the shipping cost would be for 200 papers. I'm not sure if that's how many we'll need, but at least it will give us a sense of the cost.
OK, I just ordered 50 copies of the 40 page newspaper. That was the max that Half Letter Press would allow me to buy at once. They should arrive at C3 in 4-7 days!
