In making my version of the straight jacket I am referencing hysteria; the normal functioning of female sexuality labeled as disease. Women were locked up in asylums, deprived of their senses, forced to refrain from any mental stimulation and restrained by straight jackets for their natural urges and curiosities. For these women, and as one, I rewrite history by knitting a soft and beautiful straight jacket that will allow her to experience her body, while being reminded of her gender.
