Artist Statement/Bio
Jennifer Polins is a maker,teacher, curator and director who has been living in Northampton since 1998. She is the MCC 2014 choreographic fellow and teaches as a guest lecturer for the five college dance department and nationally. Jen is the founding director of The School for Contemporary Dance and Thought- She is the co curator for the Ponderosa TanzLand Festival in Berlin Germany and lives between Berlin and Northampton. Jen started her dance career at the age of 16 with the Joffery Ballet in NYC and has been on stage and behind the scenes ever since!
Describe your organization or gallery
The School of Contemporary Dance and Thought (SCDT) is compromised of a collective of innovative, independent, and internationally experienced performance artists and teachers. SCDT’s mission is to offer contemporary approaches to movement training and performance practices that embrace multiplicity; arouse curiosity; consider the history of re-invention; challenge established ideals; and cultivate a broad tolerance for personal choice. SCDT curates performances and workshops with national and international artists, offers dance classes for children and adults, and organizes space to enable the creative process.
