Artist Statement/Bio
Jeremy Sinkus found his passion for glass in 2003 after taking an introductory class at the Worcester Center for Crafts with renown glass artist and teacher Sally Prasch. The difficulty and the potential of this medium kept Jeremy interested and determined to know it as well as a pencil and paper. With a background of many interests including mineral, fossil collecting, mining, fishing and scuba diving, flameworked borosilicate glass seemed to be the perfect medium of colors and forms he’d choose to express his natural and bizarre forms of art. “There’s such a vast realm of possibilities that you can create with this forever.” Jeremy has been practicing with several art forms since he was a child, from sketching, stone cutting and metal-work, to wood and clay. Glass was the holder of his attention. The iridescent colors achieved that resemble opals, other various minerals and the scales of a fish can be produced so beautifully with this method. And combining this with transparency, depth, magnification and plays of light are just remarkable.
“Glass just seems to bring the ocean out of me.” Jeremy now lives and works in Western Massachusetts. A bit far from the Cape Cod Bay, were he has spent so much time fishing with his father and exploring the shores of the sandy peninsula. “This medium definitely reflects what I miss, what I look forward to and what I dream”. Now a Scuba Diver with experience in both the cold waters of New England, the Caribbean and Hawaii, his influences have grown to the oceans of the world. “Every place I dive I find more things to create in my studio, I just have to play with what I learn.”
Jeremy’s work is now being represented in galleries nation wide from Maine to Hawaii and the Virgin Islands. He hopes to continue to dive into the realm of glass art, to learn and teach this amazing phenomenon for years to come.
