This body of Johnson’s work reflects her continued fascination with the industrial landscape of Easthampton. Paintings based on the architecture of the mills-those transformed and those left behind in the transition- lining the Main streets and the light illuminating their facades and filtering down through the alley ways between them.
The fate of the Industrial Era experiencing many businesses relocating- often overseas- has created a void that is now being rebuilt- Brick by Brick –through the enterprise of artists. Attracted to such vast spaces in these sprawling brick and mortar machines, so ripe with possibility, art has become a new industry here. It is heartwarming to be part of Nash gallery, on Cottage Street across from these very Mills, devoted to reflecting the productivity of this artists community, in it’s many varied forms.
