Event Description

THE YEAR OF WANTING is an exquisite hand-cranked, candle-illuminated shadow show, based primarily on the Greek myth of Persephone, and including a patchwork of other winter myths and folktales. Poetic, delicate, dark, and moving, the show riffs on all things cold and snowy, using live original music, elements from butoh, fan dancing, and traditional storytelling. Full of goblins, bears, lovers, root cellars, snow, hell, and magic, THE YEAR OF WANTING, is unlike anything you've ever seen before...or is it?

The show runs approximately 30 minutes, so please be prompt. It is appropriate for children but intended for all ages. We will also be selling a book version of the show and music from our one man band. The show will be followed by tea and an informal talk back.

THE ROYAL FROG BALLET is an amoeba of collaborators, a producing body, a shouting household of households, and an aspiring dance team in search of parade. They create performance and installation art for community gatherings.
