Striving to Survive: C3 Arts Visioning, November 9th

Our visioning session last week was somewhat clouded by the pressing need for funding to keep C3 alive. The topic of Survive, Revive, Thrive, resonates with our needs right now and it was also tricky to balance the lack of certainty of C3’s financial future and introducing new folks to C3 with brainstorming ideas for the coming months. In this meeting I was reminded that there are great people who care about these things and want to see C3 survive. I was also reminded of the importance to work f… Continue

A conversation: one of many

So on October 29th a few of us got together and chatted about the C3 Arts Visioning document I had created and where we'd like to see things go in the coming months. Below is some text that generally documents that conversation.

We arrived at the next plan of action:
A brainstorm and planning session around the theme: Survive, Revive, Thrive which we will put into action during the winter months. Join us Monday, November 9th at 5:30 to give us your two cents and hop into actionContinue

C3 Arts Visioning

We've gained momentum and now is the time to take stock of what we want and where we're going. It's been a whirl wind year for C3 and we want your help in crafting the next phase of events and programing. Below (and attached) are my initial reflections on what C3's arts programing is and where I'd like to see it go.

How can we best reflectContinue

Commonwealth Center for Change (C3) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to sustain a network of mutual support and collaboration that strengthens a dynamic creative community.

C3 works to support artists and social mission organizations because we believe their work is integral to the cultural and economic vibrancy of our unique community. We do this by collaborating with building owners, local organizations and community oriented business to provide greater access to affordable space, opportunities for learning, connection, celebration and resource sharing.
Describe your organization or gallery
We created Valley Art Share to help artists in our community stay connected and informed about the work, events and opportunities that abound in our little valley.

storefrontART is our residency and exhibition that creatively uses donated space for art projects, exhibitions and gatherings. storefrontART has four components:

workSPACE uses empty storefronts as studio space. Artists use the space to create a wide range of work, including visual art, writing, movement, performance and theater. WorkSpace studios will be available to the artist, free of charge, for up to six months, or until it is rented.
windowSPACE uses empty storefront windows to exhibit art. A wide range of work is featured in windowSPACE, including visual art, video and film, installation and performance. Each exhibition lasts up to one month.
artHAPPENINGS are quarterly cabaret-style events in vacant storefronts, urban spaces and community oriented businesses; they bring people together to celebrate art, local artists and the communities that support them. They will each feature the work of several artists in different media, such as visual art, performance and music. Art Happenings coincide with Northampton's 'Arts Night Out'.
artSPEAK is programming that engages the community in examination and discussion of contemporary artistic practice. Local and visiting artists and academics facilitate workshops and discussions that examine issues relevant to work being produced both locally and internationally.

storefrontART is inspired by what you create
