A.P.E. Presents PRESENT TENSE: Paintings by Yvonne Estrada,
Clint Jukkala,
Barbara Neulinger,
and Sean Greene

November 2-29, 2009
Opening reception: November 6, 5-8 pm
November will welcome the color emanating from A.P.E.'s main street space with an exhibition called Present Tense. Exploring the approaches of four painters, the exhibit seeks to show that the mode of abstraction as fresh as it has ever been.
Yvonne Estrada, Sean Greene, Clint Jukkala and Barbara Neulinger are each deeply involved in formal elements of abstract painting, while drawing inspiration from sources such as skateboarding, fisherman's knots and 80's video games. The open and neutral quality of the space will provide the opportunity for visitors to engage in a dynamic dialogue between these four painters' works.
Sharing a reverence for the strong, visual impact associated with the color and spatial manipulation employed by painters such as Josef Albers, Henri Matisse and Joan Mitchell, these four contemporaries carry on with the conviction that the language of abstraction continues to contribute to our visual culture in profound and meaningful ways.
The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, November 6 from 5-8 pm.
A.P.E will participate in Northampton Arts Night Out / 2nd Fridays on November 13th. November 20 at 6 pm, the artists will host a slide night and discussion of their work. The public is encouraged to attend.
